cooler summers in the antarctic

some scientists from america have taken a look
at weather patterns in the antarctic over the last
35 years and decided that the weather may be
cooling down instead of warming up   this goes
against the popular greenhouse effect theory
which says that temperatures are getting
generally warmer   although they do not
completely deny the existence of the greenhouse
effect   they say that there seems to be a
different pattern in the antarctic

the cooler weather is having a bad effect on the
microscopic plankton from the frozen lakes and
tiny worms that live in the regional soil   their
numbers are getting less and less   this is
because the cooler air is making the layer of ice
thicker so that the plankton get less light in order
to multiply   the number of worms is also
falling by approximately 10% each year

other scientists disagree with these findings and
say that although there may have been recent
cooling   the overall pattern is that the weather
is undoubtedly warming up
